Tasked with converting a former Banff power substation into a columbarium, the team developed a Schematic Design approach that maintained much of the historic exterior envelope while reconfiguring the interior layout to create private areas for quiet moments of reflection.
The landscape strategy tied the building into the adjacent cemetery, prioritizing native plantings and soft edges.
Additionally, round ceramic port holes where live electrical wires once passed into the substation, were referenced throughout the various design elements to tie the old into the new. These drawings were part of a broader conservation plan and report.
