ERA Architects Inc. (2019)
Located in Caledon, Ontario, the Cambium Farms barn is a rustic post-and-beam structure that was constructed around 1873. The family-run farm currently operates as a wedding venue and event space. ERA was hired to oversee the renovation of the barn and the design of two new additions to provide washroom facilities, a prep kitchen and a formal entrance to the renovated basement.
I was involved in every stage of the project, from the initial site measurements and schematic design phase to design development and overseeing construction progress.
One key design feature of the new construction is the board formed concrete walls which reflect the utilitarian tradition of the surrounding farm buildings. Additionally, the size and spacing of the board form replicate the rhythm and texture of the boards on the existing barn structure.
